ARLINGTON, VA. — Nestle USA has opened a distribution center in Arvin, Calif., which the company said is its largest and most technologically advanced distribution center. The facility allows Nestle to strengthen its West Coast distribution and enables the delivery of products from various Nestle brands including Toll House while also supporting future portfolio growth, the company said.
The 700,00-square-foot facility uses targeted automation to increase agility and resiliency as well as support higher demand in peak seasons. The facility also aims to source 100% of its electricity from investments in renewable energy, which include solar and wind power, and aims to be zero waste for disposal, meaning it will recycle, compost and recover energy from waste materials that would have otherwise gone to a landfill. The company already has invested more than $330 million into the distribution center as part of its broader commitment to invest $25 billion in its US operations over a 10-year period starting in 2020.
“Our investment in the new Arvin distribution center reflects how we’re building Nestle for the future, modernizing our supply chain and delivering for our customers and consumers with greater speed and precision,” said Marty Thompson, chief executive officer of Nestle USA. “This state-of-the art, digitally enabled facility enhances our ability to meet growing demand across our portfolio and reinforces our long-term commitment to investing and growing in the United States.”
The Arvin facility is the second high-tech distribution center Nestle has opened in the United States within the last two years, with the first being its beverage factory and distribution center in Glendale, Ariz.
