Icon Foods launches tagatose sweetener

PORTLAND, ORE. — Icon Foods has launched its latest ingredient innovation, TagaLite. a ready-to-formulate tagatose sweetener that was designed to deliver a sugar-like functionality and sweetness without added sugars, the company said.

Manufacturers may use the sweetener in such applications as baked foods, dairy products, beverages, frozen applications, confectionery and snacks.

The sweetener also may support diabetic, keto and GLP-1-friendly product development, Icon Foods said.

“TagaLite provides manufacturers with a highly functional, low-calorie sweetener option for sugar reduction,” said Thom King, chief innovations officer at Icon Foods. “Formulators can rebuild sugar’s role in texture, browning, bulk and freeze control, with a clean sweetness that behaves like sugar in real-world applications.”
