BATAVIA, ILL. — Aldi is expanding what it calls its restricted ingredients list from 13 to 57 by removing an additional 44 ingredients from its private label food, vitamin and supplement products by December 2027.
Consumers will see ingredient changes clearly displayed on packaging, according to the retailer. Reformulated products will roll out in phases between now and December 2027.
Aldi said formalizing the updated ingredients list will ensure consistent standards across each of its private label categories, and provide their suppliers with clear expectations ahead of the 2027 deadline so the reformulations meet Aldi’s quality benchmarks.
“At the heart of our private label products is a commitment to listening to our customers and continually improving the products they bring into their homes,” said Scott Patton, chief commercial officer, Aldi. “Based directly on customer feedback, we are proud to take meaningful steps to make it even easier for families to fill their carts with confidence by delivering simpler ingredients while continuing to provide the quality and value they expect from Aldi.”

The retailer previously announced plans in 2025 that it was shifting much of its private brand roster to its own name.
Specifically, Aldi-exclusives will now carry the Aldi name or bear the tagline “an Aldi Original.”
The grocer said several labels will be replaced with the Aldi name, while popular own brands like Clancy’s, Simply Nature and Specially Selected will receive updated branding as well as the “an Aldi Original” stamp. In addition, products like “Red Bag Chicken” will adopt shopper-given nicknames.
