KANSAS CITY — The protein category continues to grow with new product innovations.
PepsiCo, Inc. is adding a protein variety to its Doritos brand. Doritos Protein is formulated with 10 grams of protein per serving, casein and nine amino acids. The chips are available in nacho cheese and tangy barbecue.
“This innovation underscores PepsiCo Foods’ commitment to evolving its portfolio to meet shifting consumer preferences toward foods with functional ingredients,” said Hernán Tantardini, chief marketing officer for PepsiCo Foods US. “Seventy percent of consumers want their salty snacks to have protein — and now we are making it more accessible and seamlessly integrated into everyday snacking occasions without compromising the distinctive Doritos experience.”
Systm Foods is adding a clear protein beverage to its Rebbl brand. The zero sugar drinks offer 20 grams of whey protein, 300 mgs of potassium, 100 mgs of magnesium and 95 mgs of sodium. The beverages are available in flavors such as mixed berry, lemon lime, strawberry watermelon and mandarin orange.
“For too long, protein has meant heavy shakes that feel more like a meal than a beverage,” said Elizabeth Stephenson, chief executive officer of Systm Foods. “Rebbl clear protein breaks that mold, delivering complete protein in a light, refreshing, zero sugar beverage that consumers will want to reach for throughout the day.”
BellRing Brands, Inc. is adding a Coffeehouse line to its Premier Protein brand. The protein shakes contain the caffeine equivalent of one cup of coffee, according to the company, along with 30 grams of protein and 24 vitamins and minerals. Flavor options include mocha and caramel macchiato.
