KANSAS CITY — Functional beverage innovations are popping up in retailers.
Danone North America is adding a protein-packed milk to its Silk brand. Silk Protein is formulated with 13 grams of plant-based protein and 3 grams of fiber per serving. The milk offers 50% less sugar than conventional dairy milk, according to the company. The protein milk is available in flavors such as chocolate and original.
“Silk continues to lead the plant-based beverage category with innovative options that meet evolving consumer needs,” said Kallie Goodwin, senior vice president of plant-based beverages, Danone US. “Protein is here to stay, yet convenient, great-tasting plant-based choices have been limited — until now. Our new Silk Protein not only delivers the protein consumers crave but also offers added benefits like fiber, calcium and less sugar to support balanced nutrition.”
The Coca-Cola Co. is launching BodyArmor Flash I.V. caffeine zero sugar. The beverages offer 95 mgs of caffeine, 2,290 mgs of electrolytes and are free from sugar. The beverages also are formulated with zinc and vitamins B and C. The functional beverages are available in flavors such as pineapple passionfruit and watermelon punch.
Koia is debuting a protein soda line. The beverages are formulated with 10 grams of plant-based protein, 4 grams of prebiotic fiber and 2 grams of sugar. The soda line includes flavors such as rocket freeze, sour squeeze, pink twist and capri splash.
“Koia has always been about reimagining what protein can look like and how it can taste,” said Chris Hunter, chief executive officer of Koia. “As we’ve expanded our portfolio, we’ve been intentional about meeting consumers where they are — both in how they live and how they shop; and with a decade of R&D behind us, protein pop represents our take on one of the most disruptive spaces in beverage today.”
