KANSAS CITY — Foodservice operators are experimenting with innovative formats, seasonal launches and limited-time offerings to capture consumer interest.
Atlanta-based Papa Johns is tapping into consumer desire for nostalgia and revisiting the pan pizza format for the first time in over eight years. The item features Parmesan cheese and Papa Johns’ garlic sauce baked into the crust at the bottom of the pan, according to the company, along with a six-cheese blend.
“After nearly a decade, we’ve reimagined Pan Pizza to bring it back onto our menu,” said Jenna Bromberg, chief marketing officer of Papa Johns. “Consumer expectations for flavor and value are higher than ever. And the pan pizza category is crowded, which is why we took a deliberate, consumer-led approach to developing the perfect recipe, and focused on getting every detail right. Pan pizza is nostalgic, indulgent and so beloved, and we saw the chance to elevate a pan-style pizza in a way that feels distinctly Papa Johns.”
Dunkin’ has launched a collection of new beverages ahead of Valentine’s Day. The introductions include three strawberry dragonfruit-based refresher varieties, the heart eyes daydream refresher, the chocolate covered strawberry daydream refresher and the blush spritz refresher, in addition to the toxic ex-presso cloud latte, the sweet on you cloud latte, the perfect matcha and buff chai. The company also has brought back its brownie batter classic donut for the holiday.
“Brownie batter is the kind of donut our guests mark their calendar for — rich, chocolate-forward and undeniably Dunkin’,” said Anthony Epter, vice president of menu innovation at Dunkin’. “For Valentine’s Day, we built the rest of the lineup to match that same feel-good indulgence, from bold espresso sips to fruit-forward refreshers, plus protein milk-based options that still feel like a treat.”
Sandwich chain Jersey Mike’s has unveiled the limited-time Mike’s hot Italian sandwich. Marking the company’s first hot sandwich featuring chopped Italian meats, the item combines ham, salami and pepperoni with melted provolone cheese, grilled onions, lettuce, tomato and chopped pepper relish.
