One of UK’s best hotels for fishing put up for sale for £2.5m

The historic coaching inn was previously on the market in 2020

A Devon hotel that is listed among the best in the UK for fishing by the Good Hotel Guide has been put up for sale for £2.5m. The Arundell Arms in Lifton is an 18th-century coaching inn that has access to 22 miles of private fishing and is popular with anglers from across the country.

It also operates a prominent fly fishing school and is renown for shooting, working with estates across Devon and Cornwall.

The 21-bed hotel was previously owned by the same family for 60 years before being sold in 2020 to Simon Village and Arabella Monro for an undisclosed sum.

The duo are now looking to sell up themselves after achieving “what they set out to do”, according to property broker Christie & Co which is managing the sale process.

Knut Wylde, the owner’s representative, said: “The Arundell occupies a position in the market that very few properties in this country can genuinely claim, a sporting hotel of national significance, a food and beverage offer that has earned its reputation on merit, and a character that cannot be franchised.

“For the new owner, whether an experienced operator or a passionate individual seeking a landmark address with real substance, The Arundell represents an opportunity that is literally once in a generation.”

The hotel has a gastro pub, on-site cafe, event facilities, a book-lined guest lounge with a log-burning fire, and a two-bedroom self-catering fishing cottage.

It also has an event space and bar that is based on the site of an historic cockfighting pit – one of the few surviving examples in England.

The venue operates four function spaces accommodating parties of up to 100 guests and has 16 Tesla charging points. It also has a separate, self-contained 4-bedroom staff flat, with separate kitchen.
