If you bought tickets on StubHub during a three-day window last May, you may be owed money.
The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) recently sued StubHub for allegedly hiding mandatory fees from customers at checkout, failing to display the true price of live-event tickets. As part of the resolution, StubHub will pay $10 million in refunds to affected buyers.
Eligibility is straightforward: You must have purchased tickets for a live event in the U.S. on StubHub between May 12 and May 14, 2025.
Qualifying consumers don’t need to do anything to claim their refund. According to a consumer alert from the FTC, StubHub will automatically return certain fees within 90 days and send an email notice with a phone number and website for additional information.
Exactly which fees will be refunded or how much individual consumers can expect to receive has yet to be disclosed.
The case is part of a broader FTC push against unfair and deceptive fees in ticketing and short-term lodging. Under rules that took effect last May, sellers are required to clearly disclose all mandatory charges upfront, not keep them out of sight until the final checkout screen (a practice sometimes called “drip pricing”).
Examples of charges that now have to be included in the total price include mandatory resort fees at hotels, cleaning fees for vacation rentals and fees to purchase live-event tickets online. Some misrepresentations may also violate the FTC’s rules, such as when a business charges you an “environmental fee” but doesn’t actually use the money to promote sustainable practices or conservation efforts.
Businesses may only exclude government charges, shipping charges and fees for optional goods or services that people can choose to add to the transaction. Still, these excluded fees or charges must be prominently displayed alongside the final payment amount before asking people to pay.
